Christian Counselling & Therapy
The first appointment allows us to get to know each other. This appointment is free and without obligation. It is an opportunity for you to ask me about the counselling process and for us to discuss your situation in detail and how you are affected by it.
This contains comprehensive questions concerning your family, your siblings, your self-assessment, your evaluation of the problem and what you wish to achieve through counselling. I will ask you to complete this questionnaire after we have met and talked for the first time. Although there is no obligation to answer these questions, it would be helpful for both of us. You will find it helpful to make clear statements on various subjects related to your problem and these will provide information that will help me to understand both you and your situation better.
After the first appointment we will both have a clearer understanding of your counselling requirements. Ideally we should aim to have a counselling session, of 45 minutes duration, every one to two weeks. It will not be possible, however, to predict how many sessions will be required. Although one session may be sufficient for us to discuss your situation, we may require ten or more sessions. You are at all times free to decide whether or not you wish to continue with the counselling process.
The pre-counselling questionnaire contains questions concerning medical aspects of your situation. Your problem may be caused, or exacerbated by, a medical condition. Both depression and anxiety can be caused by medical conditions. If I think that the root of your problem is medical then I will suggest that you visit your GP, a neurologist or the appropriate specialist. If your problem is caused by a medical condition then you require, first and foremost, medical help.
The mind, the body and the soul make up an inseparable, interrelated unit. If a person suffers in one of these areas then it affects the whole person. Hence, counselling can still be of help even when the root cause of your problem has been found to be medical and this has been treated.
People are all different, they displaying different traits and have different characters. Some people enjoy spending their time in a group. Other people find groups taxing and need a considerable amount of time on their own to reflect. People have different predispositions and different vulnerabilities depending on the structure of their personality. The PST-R is a scientifically evaluated test which offers reliable insight into the various characteristics and structure of an individual's personality.
As a counsellor I employ the PST-R as a fundamental diagnostic tool. This test does not assess the value of a person's character but shows areas which can be changed through counselling and areas where changes are unlikely to be achieved. Defining these areas helps us to identify some of the causes of the problems that you are experiencing and will enable us to develop a new approach and strategies that you can take advantage of in your life.
The counselling takes place in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere in my practice in Alzenau (please see Directions).
All counselling takes place in complete confidentiality. Confidentiality is guaranteed by law and is covered by the "Gesetz über den öffentlichen Gesundheitsdienst", in § 32 Absatz 1 "Datenschutz und Schweigepflicht".
